If you know me, then you are well aware of the two subjects that take precedence in my life: fitness and Beyonce. I know.. I sound like a obsessed Beyhive member. But this woman’s music and work ethic have been HUGE sources of motivation during my weight loss journey.

I’ve literally spent hours working out to her live concerts, been drenched in sweat dancing to her songs with my family and friends, and forced myself out of bed to exercise by saying to myself: “Do you think Beyonce is laying around right now? Get UP!”

Because of this, Queen Bey will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart and in my journey. I’ve compiled a list of my top ten Beyonce songs that keep me moving and motivated:

Freakum Dress” (Album: B Day)

This song, with its high-energy beat and lyrics, will have you putting in overtime at the gym trying to fit into your freakum dress!

Flawless” (Album: Beyonce)

I can tell you, there is nothing more satisfying than burning calories while Beyonce is singing “Bow Down Bitches!” in your ear. Try it. Thank me later.

Formation” (Album: Lemonade)

I absolutely LOVE listening to this song while I’m on the treadmill, it starts off slow, just as I do on this piece of equipment. But babyyyyy… When she tells you to SLAY, you better SLAY! Increase that speed and get in formation.

Upgrade You” featuring Jay-Z (Album: B Day)

I’m just as much a fan of Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z as I am of her, so anytime they collaborate, I’m never dissapointed. This song has a slight edge and cockiness that will make you give your all in the gym.

Deja Vu” (Album: B Day)

This song will get you into your fat burning zone in no time! The passion in her voice alone will have you killing your cardio.

Sorry” (Album: Lemonade)

The ultimate “Eff You!” song to the man that broke your heart. Instead of sitting on the couch, crying and stuffing your face, get up and dance to this. Tell him “boy bye!” while burning calories.

Countdown” (Album: 4)

I love this song during my ab circuit. The countdown incorporated in the lyrics is a self-challenge for me to push through from 10 to 1. It has me hold each crunch longer, try it!

Get Me Bodied” (Album: B Day)

This song brings me so much joy and so many great memories. I don’t even have this on my workout playlist, but every time it comes on.. It’s party time! Even if you can’t afford a gym membership, just dancing to this with your girls in the living room will leave you a haute mess! Wind it back girrrrl.

Green Light” (Album: B Day)

I think that this song is perfect for spinning or cycling, it’s so high energy! It also pushes you to go harder and faster, just by trying to keep up with the beat! Haha.

7/11” (Album: Beyonce: More Only)

Another great song for those without a gym membership. Dancing is free, fun and healthy for your body and spirit. How can you hate on a song that embodies fun?

There are *cough* haters *cough* people that can give you a laundry list of reasons that they hate this icon, but who cares? Beyonce means a lot of things to a lot of people, myself included. She has made us feel empowered, sexy, strong and confident, everything that we should embody as a woman. She has pushed me to go as hard as I can during my journey, simply with leading by example with her legendary work ethic and powerful catalogue of music. The phrase “We all have the same 24 hours as Beyonce”, plays in my head anytime I lean towards my excuses and away from hard work. Although her greatness can never be duplicated, I will always fight to achieve even a fraction of what she has.

Keep slaying while sipping lemonade.. Naturally sweetened and organic lemonade, of course.
