 In budget, weight loss

You want to eat healthy, you want to hire a trainer to give you a body that rivals Beyonce.. But there’s one problem: YOU AIN’T GOT NO DAAAAMMMMNNN MONEY!!! You’re pretty much convinced that there is no hope for you to get it tight and get it right, but I’m here to tell you: YOU ARE WRONG.

I’ve lost over 40 pounds this year. Crazy thing about that? I’m broke baby! Lol I have tons of bills, expenses, and “grown people problems”, but when there’s a will there’s a way! I’m going to give you a few inexpensive alternatives that are just as effective with weight loss. Trust me, I’m living proof!

EXERCISE:

Ummmm, what if I told you you don’t need a trainer or gym membership to lose weight? What if I told you that I shed my fluffiness without ever stepping foot in a gym? I’m sure you’re rolling your eyes and muttering, “yeah right!” But I’m telling you the truth.

Although I don’t have a gym membership, I do have cable! Xfinity On Demand has a GREAT selection of workout videos under the category: FITNESS WORKOUTS, ranging from beginner’s low impact cardio to advanced intense strength training. I swear by these workouts, and you can work your way up from beginner to advanced the more your stamina increases. Trust me, don’t sleep on these videos!

No cable? No problem!

Let’s just say you don’t have cable… Sorry, still no excuse. Take your ass on down to 5 Below, Ross, Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and you will find all of the tools that you will need to help you burn fat. Each of these stores has a fitness section that sells very inexpensive workout equipment, I once got a set of 5 lb weights for $1.49 each that were on clearance in Ross! You can purchase jump ropes, kettle balls, resistance bands and many other tools for well under $10. Research the correct form of different exercises on YouTube (no Internet? Use the free library’s! Haha I’m blocking every excuse) and rock out.

Are you, like the rest of the world, a huge fan of the hit show Scandal? Well, instead of sitting on the couch for an hour while yelling, “Oh hell no Olivia girl!!! I can’t believe that was your mama!!” Burn calories while watching instead! You can purchase an inexpensive stepper from Walmart (under $15) and use that to workout with. You won’t miss a minute of the show, trust me, lol. Shit, the intensity you experience from the show may even increase the amount of energy you have while stepping! During commercial breaks do reps of squats and crunches. No excuses!

There is also a HUGE gym that is absolutely free to use every day of the week. Annnnnd it’s open 24/7, 365 days a year. Guess what it’s called? It’s called OUTSIDE. Take a jog, walk, run, whatever floats your boat! Won’t cost you a penny!

FOOD:

Trust me, I know how much easier it is on your pockets to go to your favorite fast food place and say, “Lemme get uhhhh..” then it is to cough up $10 for a salad somewhere healthier. What if I told you that it is not as expensive to eat healthy as you have convinced yourself it is? That same $5 that you spent on burgers, fries, soda (and potential stroke) could be spent on 6 homemade turkey burgers and veggies. This is how I save money and lose weight without starving myself:

BUY IN BULK – One of the cheapest and healthiest proteins to purchase is skinless and boneless chicken breasts. There are also MANY ways to be creative with chicken. Many large packages of chicken can be bought for under $10, and can be frozen for later use. Do you know how many healthy inexpensive meals you can make from this package? Soups, salads, you can stuff them, pan sear them, grill them.. Wait, I sound like Bubba from Forrest Gump, lol but you get my drift!

Farmers Markets and butchers also do many bundle package sales on meats. If you’re in the Philadelphia area, Reading Terminal Market always has great meat package deals.

Speaking of Farmers Markets, do you know how much money you will save if you buy your fruits and veggies from there vs the grocery store? A whoooooole bunch. My average trip to the Farmers Market cost me between $18 to $20, and I’m leaving with 2 HUGE bags of fresh produce. Maximize your purchase by cutting up and freezing for later use.

Not near a Farmer’s Market? Y’all already know what I’m about to say: STILL NOT AN EXCUSE!! Walmart sells bags of frozen fruits and veggies for dirt cheap… And errrrry city has at least 10 Walmarts 🙂

DO IT YOURSELF – If you prepare your meals for a few days in advance (breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks) you will not be tempted to spend unnecessary money on take-out and fast food. You can find plenty of creative recipes on sites such as Pinterest and Instagram.. You can also purchase my clean cooking book (shameless plug, lol) to help add variety to otherwise bland and boring meals.

There are absolutely no excuses when it comes treating your body right. And trust me when I tell you, the down payment you are putting a longer life is worth every single penny.
